Larissa, DNP APRN CNM
Larissa was born into the skilled hands of midwives in a house her parents built in the woods of central Minnesota. She was interested in wellness and reproductive healthcare from an early age, at various times considering pursuing medical or veterinary school. It was the experience of receiving midwifery care herself during her first pregnancy that sparked a love for caring for families during the childbearing year, as during the process she experienced how person- and family-centered care that focused on “being with” rather than “doing to” could be powerful and life changing. In her decade-long journey to becoming a midwife herself, she apprenticed briefly in a home birth practice, pursued doula training with the group ToLabor, and had two more of her own babies, born with the help of community midwives.
Larissa is dedicated to providing individualized, holistic, evidence-based care that is grounded in respect for each person and family. She views her role as being a source for information and guidance in partnership with those who come to see her, knowing that modern midwifery is both an art and a science. She believes that empowering care can change the world for the better and that it begins with mindful listening.
Larissa is board certified in nurse-midwifery and holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice and a Master of Nursing degree from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and German language from the University of Minnesota, Morris. She also holds a certificate in Integrative Therapies and Healing Practices from the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota. She lives in an old house in St. Paul with her husband, three children, and two cats. She loves to cook, play board games with friends, and to spend time in northern Minnesota.
